MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS - CAN'T HOLD US FEAT. RAY DALTON

Mis-en-scene: The mis-en-scene in this video has a variety of different features. For example, when the singer goes on the plane, it implies that he is going on a journey in order to spread the word of 'The Heist', which is Macklemore's album name. Furthermore, at 1:53, when the artist is in front of the camel, it shows that he is travelling around the world and going to exotic lands that imply he will stop at nothing until he succeeds his mission which is to be victorious and get people to know his name.

JEREMIH FEAT. 50 CENT- DOWN ON ME

Camera work- The camera work in this music video is mostly a worms eye view because it looks up at the artists which present their dominance as they are looking down on the camera lens. Also the video tends to pan around the artists as they are singing/ rapping which also shows the background with the funky lights and the pretty women. This shows that they are the dominance as they don't  walk around the camera, the camera walks around them.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE- MIRRORS

Mis-en-scene/ visual effects: The mis en scene in this video shows the history of a couple and the women as her older self looks back through pictures and messed up rooms to show how their relationship fluctuates. Also the visual effect show how the women as her older self looks back on how much has changed and then they first met and how the relationship began. 



KATY PERRY - LAST FRIDAY NIGHT

Narrative: The narrative in this video is about a nerdy female played by Katy Perry who is trying to study and concentrate but she is being disturbed by their neighbours who is having a crazy teenage party with a number of people from he school, she decides to go to the party and tell them to keep the music down but is drawn to the music and decides to stay. She then gets a complete makeover and then decides to join in on the fun and then starts to drink and get drunk and she finds love and wakes up the next morning to find the house in a complete wreck and her parents find out.  

MICHAEL JACKSON- SMOOTH CRIMINAL
Editing: The editing in this song is quite fluent as the song doesn't stop moving and it shows how much of an intense song it is. Furthermore the actors have very fluent movement and dancing which implies that they are tying to link with the song and make sure that it fits into the video.

Taken (2008)
I have chosen the film Taken. "Taken" is a 2008 French thriller film produced by Luc Besson, starring Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen. The screenplay was written by Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, and directed by Pierre Morel. Neeson plays a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operative who sets about tracking down his daughter after she is kidnapped by human traffickers while travelling in France.

The Wolf Of Wall Street

The conventions of Todorov's theory is that it has an equilibrium  when he starts his new job and starts to make millions of dollars by using The basic method of the firm is a pump and dump scam. To cloak this, Belfort gives the firm the respectable name of "Stratton Oakmont". After an exposé in Forbes, hundreds of ambitious young financiers flock to his company. The movie has a disequilibrium when the protagonist Jordan Belfort starts to use his money for bad used like drugs and prostitutes. The movie then receives a new equilibrium when Belfort turns his life around and starts makes a living hosting seminars on sales technique.

Also, the conventions of Propps theory was very complicated as many of the characters are evil. But the the main protagonist is Leonardo DiCaprio because he starts his business and makes millions. the Heroine is Margot Robbie because she is the woman that DiCaprio marries.  The father of the movie is Matthew McConaughey because he guides DiCaprio to his business. The helper of the film is Jonah Hill because he works with DiCaprio in order to make history. The donor of the film Jon Bernthal because he provides ideas like moving his money to a different country.

For Barthes theory in this film contains the Enigma code makes us think that he could do with millions of dollars and we also think that if he gets caught by the FBI because he has done so much illegal felonies. The Action codes in this film suggests that he meets this new women in who he marries and has a daughter. It also suggests that Belfort will get arrested because this movie is based in real events so we know that he will get arrested. And the FBI never fail to capture their target and Belfort is at the top of the list

The Wolf Of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street represents Americans Businesses in the 1980's as corrupt and busy. This is because it’s about a company that abuses their use of money to live their life illegally by taking drugs and the FBI try to gather as much evidence to prove he is guilty but he is clever enough to erase that he was involved in almost all crime taking place in their city. Also the film is very sexist as they use many female actors and are used as "hookers" and prostitutes which introduce a lot of explicit content. This could imply that they referred to women as "objects" back in the 1980's, This is inappropriate because is it true that everyone is equal as women are referred as "objects" is very sexist and stereotypical. This movie also represents the 1980's as crooked and shady because the movies contains a lot of drugs and explicit content which could influence young teenagers that this is what America used to look like. This movie also does not consist of a lot of black people because in the 1980's there was a lot of racism. This represents that during this period, Americans were very biased and racist. This also gives the American Dream a bad name because it goes against everything the American Dream goes for. This is because it represents the stereotypical fact that Americans are lazy and greedy.

Assignment 2: Film Pitch

Our production task for Assignment 2 involves coming up with our own film promotion for an original movie that we have created.

*Note: this CANNOT be a Science Fiction film due to clashes with the exam topic

Title and tagline: Vengeance: “He’s never gonna stop” 

Genre (and sub-genre if applicable): Action, Thriller

Logline – one sentence that sums up the film and hooks people in (25 words or fewer): A man sets out to kill an entire gang because they killed his family and all he wants is Vengeance

Other successful films that is similar to yours: Taken, The Crow, Taken 2

Narrative structure – what happens in the film and in what order (max 100 words)? The film takes place in current in current Miami, Florida where an ex-marine soldier man comes home from work to find his family killed in cold blood. As left behind evidence prove to be the most ruthless gang in all of Miami known as the Poison Ivies. As his mind fills with anger and Vengeance he sets out to destroy the gang. This means that he must remember all of his military training in order to track down the gang using a set of deadly skills which the gang will not expect. He will stop at nothing.

Hero/heroine, their desires, and the conflicts they encounter etc.: Alex Ryder – An ex-marine who has the record for the most kills in one tour is Afghanistan, sets out to find the gang Poison Ivies who killed his family in cold blood as he will stop at nothing until he sees them all dead and he fulfils his Vengeance.

Costume/props that the hero requires (for film poster photo-shoot): A 16 year old boy dressed up in all black with a dark lighting with a ruthless facial expression looking away from the camera. And also will have a dark background to settle the mood.

Other characters and their audience appeal: Stretch – The leader of the Poison Ivies. Black belt in Martial Arts and spend 5 years in Apalachee Correctional Institution Prison for apparent manslaughter on his own father.

Target audience for your film (age, gender, social class, interests etc.):

My target audience is aimed at teenagers aged 16-55 and over because the movie can contain violent gory scenes and a lot of explicit language. Also more aimed at the male and largely the middle class with parents in ABC1 Social class classification. Audience likely to be in education, thinking about going to university and interested in hard-core ruthless films.

It also has black comedy.    A black comedy (or dark comedy) is a comic work that employs farce and morbid humour, which, in its simplest form, is humour that makes light of subject matter usually considered taboo. It also has crime fiction because it is based on a real story of a criminal who made $50 million dollars illegally. it also is a biological film, a biological film is a film that dramatizes the life of a non-fictional or historically-based person or people. Such films show the life of a historical person and the central character's real name is used.

The movie's budget was $100,000,000 for the whole movie production. As they had to pay back the money the movie made a grossing of   $116,866,727 by March 2014

User Reviews

By far the Best Movie of the Year, Best Actor, Best Director! The whole supporting cast is excellent as well. This movie will not disappoint it was much better than I expected and the duration of the movie is not felt at all. It definitely did not feel like a 3 hour production. Scorsese put this movie together brilliantly! You are on your toes and engaged throughout from beginning to end. Leonardo DiCaprio is at his best! He will take you through the highs and lows of the movie with an Oscar Winning Performance. I read about Jordan Beaufort and it appears that Scorsese and DiCaprio made this movie as accurate as possible which I really appreciate. I commend Scorsese and DiCaprio for keeping this epic picture as authentic as possible. After all this is Hollywood.

Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

Genre: The genre of this film is Sci-Fi and Action because its about two iconic superheroes going face-to-face to try and show whose the most dominant hero and the real protector of Earth. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is an upcoming American superhero film distributed by Warner Bros Pictures.

NCIS:
Narrative: Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City's own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis' most revered, modern-day saviour, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting a distinctive and iconic fight on the line.


Character:  The origin story of Superman relates that he was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, before being rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father Jor-El, moments before Krypton's destruction. Batman's secret identity is Bruce Wayne, an American billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, and owner of Wayne Enterprises. Having witnessed the murder of his parents as a child, he swore revenge on criminals, an oath tempered with a sense of justice. Wayne trains himself both physically and intellectually and crafts a bat-inspired persona to fight crime. These two iconic characters are Scientific-related because one is from a different planet sent to earth to protect it while one already protects it and they go face-to-face to see who is most dominant.

Iconography: What we see is two superheroes going to war with each other. this shows how two people have to pick a side as people can look up to both superheroes.

Setting: The setting takes place in earth but one of the superheroes hails from another science-fictional planet called Krypton.







Evil Dead (2013)

Genre: The genre for this film is horror because the film is about devil possession and it in the middle of a forest which is quite typical for where a horror film will take place

NCIS:
Narrative: Five friends head to a remote cabin, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead leads them to unwittingly summon up demons living in the nearby woods. The evil presence possesses them until only one is left to fight for survival.

Characters: A women who is a drug addict goes with 3 friends and her brother to a cabin in the middle of the woods and gets possessed by the devil as she kills everyone one by one.

Iconography: There is no one to look up to in this film as everyone has the equal chance of danger of dying that others.

Settings: The settings is in a cabin in the middle of the woods which is a very typical place for the movie.







The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies (2014)

Genre: The genre for this film is fantasy, action as it is based in a fictional world with many different creatures like dragons and dwarves.

NCIS:
Narrative: Bilbo and Company are forced to engage in a war against an array of combatants and keep the Lonely Mountain from falling into the hands of a rising darkness.

Characters: The characters in this films are Thorin Oakenshield, a dwarf eager to take his rightful place as king on the Lonely Mountain. Bilbo Baggins, a little Hobbit who is stuck between his home in the Shire and helping taking the Lonely Mountain. Gandalf, a wizard helping the movement towards the Lonely Mountain. Legolas, an elf who is destined to fulfil his fathers wish to destroy Thorin. Azog the Defiler, a pale orc who leads an army on the Mountain.

Iconography: You can look up to almost anyone in this film as they are all iconic in their own way because they all have their own speciality and secrets.

Settings: Middle-earth is the setting of much of J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium. The term is equivalent to the term Midgard of Norse mythology, describing the human-inhabited world, i.e. the central continent of world of Tolkien's imagined mythological past. Tolkien's most widely read works, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings take place entirely in Middle-earth, and Middle-earth has also become a short-hand to refer to the legendarium or its "fictional-universe".
